West Ham United Football Club (also known as West Ham FC, West Ham F.C. or Westham) is a professional football club based in Newham, East London. West Ham united was founded in 1895 as Thames Ironworks FC; 5 years later the team was reformed in its current name. West Ham United plays its home matches at the Boleyn Ground stadium since 1904. West Ham currently play in the Premier League; the team has been a member of the Premier League for all but 3 seasons since its creation in 1992.

In its early years, West Ham United competed in the Southern and Western leagues before joining the full Football League in 1919 and being promoted to the top-flight for the 1923 season. Later that year, West Ham united was relegated to Division Two where the team remained for most of the following 3 decades. It was only in 1958 when the club once again promoted to the top level of English football.

In 1964, West Ham United won the FA Cup in 1964 and just one year later, West Ham won the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1965. in 1978, West Ham United was relegated to Division Two, the team was promoted back to Division One in 1981. Since being promoted back to Division One, West Ham United finished in the top 10 of the first division for the next 3 seasons before achieving their highest ever league finish of 3rd position in the 1985/86 season. However, two seasons later, West Ham united was relegated again in 1989.

In the 1990/91 season, West Ham was promoted to Division one again but relegated back to the Second Division in the following 1991/92 season. Following the Premier League creation in 1992; West Ham united was promoted to the Premier League in 1993.

In 20007, following the investigation of the Mascherano and T?vez signings by the Premier League West Ham United was found guilty for omitting the details of the transfers from official records and the team was fined with 5,500,000 pounds However, Westham United avoided a points deduction which helped the team to avoid relegation at the end of the 2006/07 season. In the following 2007/08 season, West Ham United consistently remained at the top half of the league table and finished at the 10th place, five placement higher than the previous season.

In the 2008/09 season, West Ham United finished 9th and the 2009/10 looked promising but right after the season begun, West stepped once again into the media spotlight for the wrong reasons after a League Cup match against Millwall caused violent riots outside the stadium as well as pitch invasions and crowd trouble inside within the stadium.
